India is not one destination — it's twenty-eight states and eight union territories, each with its own language, cuisine, architecture and calendar of festivals. Most guides flatten that into a handful of famous cities. We wanted something that went the other way: state, down to district, down to city, down to village, so nothing about the country stayed undiscovered.
That means every place on this site — currently 873 destinations across 36 states and union territories, sorted into 12 interest categories — is catalogued the same way: history, architecture, how to reach it, what it costs, and when to go. Not a brochure. A working reference.
Every entry is built from real sources — history, opening hours, entry fees, how to actually get there — not pulled wholesale from somewhere else and reformatted.
A stepwell an hour outside Jaipur gets the same fields as the Taj Mahal — type, district, best season, entry fee. No place is treated as less worth documenting properly.
Anyone with an account can submit a new place or correct an existing one through the contributor portal. Every submission is reviewed before it goes live — nothing skips moderation.
The star rating on every destination is a live average of actual visitor reviews. A place with zero reviews honestly shows "New" — we don't manufacture a starting score.
"We don't accept payment to rank a place higher. Sponsored placements, where they exist, are always labelled — and never affect search or category ordering."
We go below the state capital, deliberately. A stepwell an hour outside Jaipur, a village abandoned two centuries ago near Jaisalmer, a district you've never heard of in the Northeast — these get the same structured treatment as the Taj Mahal. The database grows through both our own research and a contributor community who add and correct entries directly.
We won't sell a higher rank, we won't fabricate a rating for an unreviewed place, and we won't collapse a state into "the three cities everyone already knows." If a section feels thin right now, that's an honest reflection of where our coverage still needs to grow — not something dressed up to look complete.
