Arwah Cave

Arwah Cave, near Cherrapunji, is a limestone cave containing visible marine fossils embedded in its walls, offering evidence of the region's geological history as an ancient seabed long before the Khasi Hills plateau rose to its current elevation. Illuminated pathways allow relatively easy exploration of the cave's chambers, making it one of the more accessible caves in the Cherrapunji area compared to some of the region's more technically demanding cave systems.

The combination of striking limestone formations and visible fossil evidence gives Arwah Cave a particular appeal for visitors interested in the area's deep geological history alongside its more immediate scenic and adventure appeal.

The fossils embedded within Arwah Cave's limestone walls provide physical evidence of the Khasi Hills' marine geological origins, a history shared across much of the wider limestone-rich terrain surrounding Cherrapunji.
