Andrott Island

Andrott, the largest island in Lakshadweep by area and among the most populous, retains a more traditional, less tourism-oriented character than the archipelago's more actively promoted islands like Agatti or Kavaratti. Several old mosques on the island, some dating back centuries, reflect Andrott's long-established Muslim community and its role as one of the earliest settled islands in the union territory.

Coconut cultivation and traditional coir-making remain significant to the local economy, and Andrott's relatively lower tourism profile compared to islands with dedicated resort infrastructure gives visitors a more genuine sense of everyday Lakshadweep island life.

Andrott is considered one of the earliest inhabited islands in Lakshadweep, with several of its historic mosques believed to date back many centuries, reflecting the island's long-established role as a centre of Islamic scholarship within the archipelago.
