Bhoramdeo Temple

Bhoramdeo Temple, often called the 'Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh' for its intricately carved sculpture including sensuous figures reminiscent of the Madhya Pradesh temple complex, is a striking sandstone Shiva temple set against the forested hills of Kawardha district. Its detailed carvings depict deities, dancers and scenes of daily life, showcasing the skill of medieval Chhattisgarhi stone artisans.

Despite its architectural and artistic significance, Bhoramdeo remains far less visited than its more famous Madhya Pradesh counterpart, giving visitors a quieter, more contemplative encounter with comparably accomplished medieval temple sculpture, often without another tourist in sight.

Built between the 7th and 11th centuries CE under the Nagvanshi and later Kalchuri dynasties, the temple complex represents one of the finest surviving examples of medieval Chhattisgarhi temple architecture, though it remains comparatively understudied relative to more famous temple sites elsewhere in India.
