Daporijo

Daporijo is a scenic town located in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, situated along the banks of the Subansiri River. Surrounded by lush green hills, forests, and river valleys, the town is known for its natural beauty and rich tribal culture. Daporijo is primarily inhabited by indigenous communities such as the Tagin tribe, who are known for their traditional lifestyle, festivals, handicrafts, and deep connection with nature. The town serves as an important administrative and cultural centre of Upper Subansiri district and offers visitors opportunities to explore tribal villages, rivers, forests, and the unexplored landscapes of western Arunachal Pradesh.

Daporijo has a long history connected with the Tagin tribal community, who have lived in the Subansiri Valley for generations. The region was traditionally governed through indigenous village systems, with customs and traditions passed down through generations. Historically, the Subansiri Valley was part of ancient routes connecting the Himalayan regions with the plains of Assam, allowing cultural exchanges among different communities. During British rule, the area came under the administration of the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA), and Daporijo developed as an important administrative centre. After India's independence, it became the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district. Today, Daporijo continues to preserve its tribal heritage, traditional practices, and natural environment while serving as a gateway to the remote and beautiful regions of Arunachal Pradesh.
