Daringbadi, sometimes called the 'Kashmir of Odisha', is the state's only significant hill station, its coffee and pepper plantations, pine forests and occasional light winter frost giving it a climate and landscape quite different from the rest of tropical Odisha. The area's numerous waterfalls and viewpoints, combined with its relatively cool temperatures, have made it an increasingly popular escape for visitors from the hot Odisha plains.
Daringbadi's tribal Kondh community adds a further cultural dimension to the region, and the area's growing but still modest tourism infrastructure gives it a genuinely quieter, more undeveloped character than Odisha's more established coastal destinations.
