Gandhi Ghat

Gandhi Ghat is one of the main riverfront points along the Ganges in Patna, a place where the city's daily rhythms of ritual bathing, evening walks and boat rides play out against the backdrop of the wide river. Named in honour of Mahatma Gandhi, the ghat is also where a portion of his ashes were immersed in the Ganges following his assassination in 1948.

In the evenings especially, Gandhi Ghat draws a steady flow of local residents for walks along the riverside promenade, making it less a formal tourist attraction than a genuine slice of everyday Patna life, best experienced by simply spending an unhurried hour at the water's edge.

The ghat's modern significance dates specifically to 1948, when it became one of the sites across India where Gandhi's ashes were immersed following his death, adding a layer of national historical memory to its long-standing role as a Ganges bathing point.
