Introduction

Malampuzha Dam, near Palakkad, combines a large reservoir with an extensive garden complex featuring a well-known rock garden, a snake park and a cable car offering views across the dam and surrounding hills. The gardens, developed alongside the dam itself, have made Malampuzha as much a recreational park destination as a straightforward reservoir viewpoint, particularly popular with families.

The dam's fountain and light show in the evenings adds a further attraction, and Malampuzha's combination of infrastructure — gardens, boating, cable car and the dam itself — gives it a broader range of activities within a single location than many of Kerala's more purely scenic destinations.

History

Completed in 1955, Malampuzha Dam was developed alongside an extensive garden complex intended to make the site a significant recreational destination in addition to its primary irrigation function for the surrounding Palakkad plains.

Best time to visit

October to March.

How to reach
