Nelliyampathy

Nelliyampathy, a lesser-known hill station in Palakkad district, offers orange and coffee plantations, dense forest and viewpoints across the Western Ghats without the crowds found at Kerala's more established hill destinations. Its winding approach road, climbing through numerous hairpin bends, itself offers dramatic views before reaching the cooler plateau above.

Seetharkundu Viewpoint, offering sweeping vistas across the Nelliyampathy hills and, on clear days, toward the Palakkad plains beyond, is among the area's most rewarding stops, and the region's relative obscurity has helped preserve a genuinely quiet, unhurried holiday atmosphere increasingly rare in Kerala's more popular hill destinations. Wildlife including elephants and occasional big cats moves through the surrounding forest, adding an element of genuine wilderness to the plantation-covered hillsides.

Nelliyampathy's plantations were established during the colonial period, and the area's continued relative isolation from major tourist circuits has kept its development considerably more modest than better-known hill stations like Munnar, preserving both its natural character and its quieter visitor experience.
