The Marble Rocks at Bhedaghat are a dramatic gorge where the Narmada river cuts through towering white and occasionally pink-tinged marble cliffs, their smooth, water-carved surfaces creating one of central India's most visually striking natural landscapes. Boat rides through the gorge, particularly memorable under moonlight, allow visitors to appreciate the scale and colour variation of the cliffs from water level, with local boatmen often pointing out rock formations resembling recognisable shapes.
The gorge's beauty has made it a popular filming location for Indian cinema for decades, and the nearby Dhuandhar Falls, where the Narmada plunges dramatically at the gorge's edge, adds a further powerful natural spectacle within the same short excursion.
The marble cliffs were formed over geological time as the Narmada river gradually carved its channel through the region's limestone and marble deposits, a process that continues, almost imperceptibly, to shape the gorge today.
October to March; full moon boat rides are particularly popular and often need advance booking.
