Introduction

Mouling National Park is a beautiful protected area located in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, within the Eastern Himalayas. Known for its pristine forests, rugged mountains, rivers, and rich biodiversity, the park is one of the most important wilderness areas in Northeast India. Spread across tropical, subtropical, and alpine ecosystems, Mouling provides habitat for rare wildlife including red pandas, clouded leopards, tigers, hoolock gibbons, takins, deer, and numerous bird species. Named after Mouling Peak, one of the highest peaks in the region, the park offers breathtaking landscapes and remains a largely unexplored destination for wildlife enthusiasts, researchers, and adventure travellers.

History

The forests of Mouling have traditionally been inhabited by indigenous communities, especially the Adi tribal groups, who have maintained a close relationship with the region's forests and natural resources for generations. The area was declared Mouling National Park in 1986 to protect its unique Himalayan ecosystem and diverse wildlife. The park forms an important part of the biodiversity-rich Eastern Himalayas and plays a vital role in conserving rare species and natural habitats. Due to its remote location and challenging terrain, Mouling has remained relatively untouched by human activities, helping preserve its ecological richness. Today, the national park represents one of Arunachal Pradesh's most valuable natural treasures and contributes significantly to wildlife conservation in Northeast India.
