Neermahal is a stunning water palace located in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake near Melaghar in the Sepahijala district of Tripura. Known as the "Lake Palace of Tripura," it is one of India's most beautiful royal palaces and a unique example of a blend between Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. Surrounded by calm waters and lush greenery, the palace features grand halls, balconies, towers, gardens, and royal chambers. Originally built as a summer retreat for the kings of Tripura, Neermahal is now one of the state's most popular tourist attractions, famous for its scenic beauty, boating experiences, and cultural events.
Neermahal was built in the 1930s by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the king of the Manikya dynasty of Tripura. Construction began in 1930 and was completed in 1938 with the help of the British engineering firm Martin Burn Company. The palace was designed as a royal summer residence where the king and his family could relax away from the capital city of Agartala. Its architecture reflects a combination of Mughal-style elements such as domes, pavilions, and courtyards with traditional Hindu designs. The palace was divided into two sections — the western side served as the royal residence, while the eastern side was used for entertainment, performances, and public activities. After the end of royal rule, Neermahal became a heritage monument managed for tourism and conservation. Today, it stands as a remarkable symbol of Tripura's royal history and architectural beauty.
