Panna National Park, along the Ken river near Khajuraho, is notable both for its tiger conservation story — recovering from a near-total local tiger extinction in the 2000s through an intensive, closely monitored reintroduction programme — and for the Pandav Falls waterfall within its boundaries. The park's dramatic river gorge and forested plateau terrain, combined with its relative proximity to Khajuraho's temples, make it a natural add-on for visitors already exploring that heritage site.
Panna's tiger recovery is considered one of India's most significant recent conservation successes, and boat safaris along the Ken river within the park offer a different, quieter perspective on the reserve's wildlife and scenery compared to conventional jeep safaris.
Panna's tiger population was completely lost to poaching by 2009, prompting an intensive reintroduction and protection programme that has since rebuilt a viable breeding population, making it one of India's most closely watched tiger conservation recovery stories.
