Shree Govindajee Temple is one of the most important Vaishnavite temples in Imphal, Manipur, dedicated to Lord Krishna (Govindajee) and Goddess Radha. Shree Govindajee Temple was built during the reign of the Manipur kings in the 18th century and became an important centre of Vaishnavism in the region. The original temple was constructed during the rule of King Garib Niwaz (Pamheiba), while the present structure was later rebuilt after earthquakes and natural damages. The temple gained prominence under King Bhagyachandra (Ching-Thang Khomba), who played a major role in spreading Krishna worship and developing the famous Manipuri Ras Lila tradition. The royal family of Manipur closely associated itself with the temple, making it a significant part of the state's religious and cultural history.
