Tharon Cave

Tharon Cave, in Tamenglong district, is among the longest known cave systems in Northeast India, its extensive network of chambers and passages drawing interest from speleologists and adventurous travellers willing to make the journey to this relatively remote part of Manipur. The cave's scale and relatively undocumented full extent give it a genuine sense of exploration for visitors, distinct from more commercialised, well-signposted cave attractions elsewhere in India.

Local Zeliangrong Naga communities in the surrounding area maintain traditional knowledge of the cave, and visits typically require local guidance both for navigation and for respecting the site's significance within local tradition.

Tharon Cave's considerable length has made it a site of ongoing interest for cave exploration and documentation, though its remote location has meant it remains less studied and less visited than its scale might otherwise suggest.
