The state is home to some of India's most iconic landmarks, including the Taj Mahal, the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the revered Ram Mandir, and the historic Bara Imambara. Uttar Pradesh is also the birthplace of several major religions, spiritual traditions, and influential historical figures.

History

  1. Uttar Pradesh has been the heart of Indian civilization for thousands of years and is closely associated with the ancient kingdoms of Kosala, Kashi, and Mathura.
  2. The region is deeply connected with the lives of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, and Lord Buddha, making it one of the world's most significant spiritual destinations.
  3. It was ruled by powerful empires including the Mauryas, Guptas, Delhi Sultanate, Mughals, and later the British.
  4. During the Mughal era, magnificent monuments such as the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri were constructed, leaving a lasting architectural legacy.
  5. After India's independence, the United Provinces was renamed Uttar Pradesh on 24 January 1950, becoming one of the founding states of the Republic of India.

Uttar Pradesh is located in northern India and shares borders with:
