About Pushkar Camel Fair

The Pushkar Camel Fair, locally known as Pushkar Mela, is one of India's most famous traditional livestock and cultural fairs. Held in the historic town of Pushkar, Rajasthan, the event traditionally brings together thousands of camel, horse and cattle traders, along with pilgrims, local communities, tourists and performers. What began primarily as a livestock trading event has developed into a spectacular celebration of Rajasthani culture, rural life, religion and tourism. The fair is particularly famous for its decorated camels, camel races, traditional competitions, folk music, dance, handicrafts and colorful bazaars. During the festival period, thousands of Hindu pilgrims also visit Pushkar and take a holy dip in Pushkar Lake, considered especially auspicious during Kartik Purnima. The nearby Brahma Temple attracts devotees who come to offer prayers. The fairgrounds become filled with colorful turbans, traditional costumes, tents, animal decorations and cultural performances, creating a distinctive Rajasthan experience. Visitors can witness traditional rural sports, shop for handicrafts and textiles, enjoy folk performances and experience the unique atmosphere of one of India's most iconic desert fairs.
