Betaab Valley, a short drive from Pahalgam, is a narrow, densely forested valley along the Lidder river, named after the 1983 Bollywood film 'Betaab' that was shot here and brought the location wider recognition. Steep pine-covered slopes rise on either side of the fast-flowing river, and the valley's combination of accessible scenery and relatively short visit time has made it one of the most popular half-day excursions from Pahalgam.
Fenced walking paths along the riverbank and a scattering of small cafes make Betaab Valley an easy, low-effort stop for families and visitors with limited time, distinct from the longer treks required to reach some of Kashmir's more remote valleys. Its proximity to Pahalgam and straightforward road access mean it's often combined with a visit to Aru Valley on the same day trip.
History
Originally known locally by a different name, the valley was renamed Betaab Valley after the success of the film shot here, and the name has stuck as its primary tourist identity ever since.
