Introduction

The Cactus Garden in Panchkula, part of the wider Chandigarh tri-city area, is one of Asia's largest cactus and succulent collections, home to several thousand species gathered from arid regions around the world. Laid out across landscaped terraces, the garden's spiky, sculptural plant forms make it a visually distinctive stop compared to the softer, greener gardens found elsewhere in the region.

Specimens range from towering columnar cacti to tiny ground-hugging succulents, arranged by region of origin across the terraced beds, giving the garden an almost geological, otherworldly quality unlike anywhere else in the tri-city area. A small on-site nursery allows visitors to purchase cacti and succulents to take home, adding a practical element to what is otherwise primarily a specialist botanical attraction.

History

Developed as a dedicated arid-plant collection to complement Chandigarh's broader network of themed gardens, drawing specimens from desert regions across multiple continents and establishing itself as one of the largest such collections in Asia.

Best time to visit

October to March.

How to reach
