Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls, also called Dassam Ghagh, drops around 44 metres in a broad two-tiered cascade on the Kanchi River near Taimara village in Ranchi district's Bundu subdivision. The name comes from the Mundari word 'Da:song', meaning the act of pouring water, a reminder of the falls' deep ties to the region's Munda tribal communities who have known the site for generations.

The falls are a popular day trip from Ranchi, particularly during and after the monsoon when the flow is at its fullest, though the strong currents that build up at the base have made swimming here genuinely dangerous, with several drowning incidents recorded over the years. Visitors are generally advised to admire the cascade from the viewing points rather than entering the water, and the site works well paired with a stop at nearby Hundru or Jonha Falls for a fuller day exploring Ranchi's waterfall circuit.

Long known to the local Munda communities of the area, whose Mundari language gave the falls their name, Dassam has since become one of the standard stops on Ranchi's well-established waterfall tourism circuit.
