Introduction

Devka is Daman's main tourist beach, a long stretch of grey volcanic sand backed by a landscaped promenade with gardens, a small amusement area and food stalls. While the sand itself is darker and coarser than the beaches at Diu, the wider promenade and family-oriented facilities make it a popular local recreation spot, particularly on weekends.

Rows of shell and shack vendors line the beachfront, and pedal boats are available on a small nearby lake, giving Devka more of an organised, family-resort atmosphere compared to the quieter, more natural beaches elsewhere in the Daman and Diu union territory.

History

Devka's development as Daman's primary beach resort area reflects the town's role as a popular weekend getaway destination for visitors from nearby Gujarat and Maharashtra, drawn partly by Daman's distinct liquor licensing laws.

Best time to visit

October to March.

How to reach

About 4km from Daman town, easily reached by auto-rickshaw.
