Dilli Haat is an open-air crafts and food market designed to showcase artisans and regional cuisines from across India, its rows of stalls organised in the style of a traditional village haat rather than a conventional shopping mall. Vendors, allotted stalls on a rotating basis from different states, sell handicrafts, textiles and jewellery representing a genuinely wide cross-section of Indian regional craft traditions.
Food stalls representing different Indian states operate alongside the craft vendors, giving visitors a chance to sample regional dishes from across the country without travelling further than a single market. The rotating vendor system means the specific mix of crafts and states represented changes over time, giving repeat visits a genuinely different character.
Established in 1994 by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation specifically to give traditional Indian artisans a direct, government-supported retail platform in the capital, bypassing the usual layers of middlemen.
October to March, though the market operates year-round.
