Lodhi Garden

Lodhi Garden is one of Delhi's most beautiful green spaces, a landscaped park built around the tombs of several 15th and 16th-century Lodhi and Sayyid dynasty rulers, their weathered domes rising dramatically from expanses of manicured lawn. The combination of medieval Islamic architecture and carefully tended modern gardens makes it a favourite spot for morning walks, joggers and picnicking families alike.

Unlike some of Delhi's more crowded monuments, Lodhi Garden's spaciousness and genuine local use — as much a neighbourhood park as a heritage site — give it a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. Bara Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad and the tomb of Sikandar Lodi are among the notable structures scattered through the grounds, each worth a slower look beyond simply admiring the garden setting.

The tombs within the garden date from the 15th and early 16th centuries, built under the Sayyid and Lodi dynasties that ruled Delhi before the Mughals; the surrounding gardens were formally landscaped in the 20th century under British and later independent Indian administration.
