Gobindgarh Fort

Gobindgarh Fort, in Amritsar, has been transformed from a former military stronghold — built under Sikh, Afghan and later British control — into a lively heritage and entertainment complex, offering museums, cultural shows and light-and-sound presentations tracing Punjab's history. The fort's brick ramparts and gateways survive largely intact, now housing exhibits on Sikh history, Punjabi culture and the region's turbulent past under successive rulers.

Evening entertainment at the fort, including cultural performances and food stalls, has given Gobindgarh a lively, family-oriented atmosphere distinct from Amritsar's more solemn religious sites, offering visitors a different, more recreational way to engage with the city's heritage.

Built in the 18th century and named after Guru Gobind Singh, the fort passed through Sikh, Afghan and eventually British control before its more recent restoration and transformation into a public heritage and cultural attraction.
