Kisama Heritage Village

Kisama Heritage Village is a cultural and traditional village located near Kohima, Nagaland, famous for showcasing the rich heritage, customs, and lifestyle of the Naga tribes. Situated about 12 kilometres from Kohima, the village is best known as the venue for the annual Hornbill Festival, one of India's most celebrated cultural festivals. The village features traditional Naga tribal houses, community halls, morungs (youth dormitories), handicraft displays, and cultural spaces representing different Naga communities. Kisama provides visitors with an opportunity to experience Nagaland's indigenous traditions, folk music, dance, cuisine, and craftsmanship in one place.

Kisama Heritage Village was established by the Government of Nagaland to preserve and promote the diverse cultural traditions of the state's indigenous tribes. The name Kisama is derived from the names of two nearby villages, Kigwema and Phesama, whose lands were used for developing the heritage site. The village was created as a permanent cultural centre for the Hornbill Festival, which was first organised in 2000 to celebrate and showcase the traditions of Nagaland's various tribes. The festival and the heritage village were designed to preserve tribal customs, encourage cultural exchange, and promote tourism. Over the years, Kisama has become an important symbol of Naga identity, where traditional architecture, rituals, crafts, and performances are preserved for future generations. Today, it stands as one of Nagaland's most important cultural attractions.
