Meluri, in Phek district, is the cultural centre of the Pochury Naga tribe, its relatively remote setting amid the eastern Naga hills offering visitors a chance to experience one of Nagaland's less-visited tribal regions. The town serves as a base for exploring the wider Phek district, including nearby Shilloi Lake and Saramati Peak, Nagaland's highest point.
Meluri's distance from the more established Kohima-centred tourist circuit gives it a genuinely off-the-beaten-path character, appealing to visitors specifically seeking Nagaland's quieter, less-touristed eastern districts and Pochury Naga cultural traditions. Local markets and community life here offer a more unfiltered view of everyday Naga hill life than the more curated attractions closer to the capital.
