Parshuram Kund is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site located on the banks of the Lohit River in the Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. Surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Eastern Himalayas, the site is dedicated to Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that taking a holy dip in the waters of the kund washes away sins and grants spiritual purification. Every year, thousands of devotees visit Parshuram Kund during the Makar Sankranti festival to participate in religious rituals and take a sacred bath. The combination of mythology, natural beauty, and spiritual significance makes it one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Northeast India.
According to Hindu mythology, Parshuram Kund is associated with the legend of Lord Parshuram, who came to this region after completing his penance. It is believed that he washed away the sin of killing his mother Renuka with his divine axe in the waters of the Lohit River, making the site sacred. Ancient scriptures and local traditions have preserved the importance of this pilgrimage for centuries. The site has been a revered destination for sages, devotees, and travellers from different parts of India. A major earthquake in 1950 damaged the original rock formation at the kund, but the pilgrimage tradition continued, and the site was later developed for visitors. Today, Parshuram Kund remains a symbol of faith, devotion, and the spiritual heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
