Triund Trek

The Triund Trek, above McLeod Ganj, is one of Himachal's most popular short treks, a moderately challenging climb through pine and oak forest to a grassy ridge offering dramatic close-up views of the Dhauladhar range's snow-capped peaks. Achievable as a demanding day hike or a more relaxed overnight camping trip, Triund's combination of accessibility and genuinely spectacular payoff has made it a rite of passage for many visitors to Dharamshala.

Camping overnight at Triund, watching the sunset and sunrise light up the surrounding peaks, is widely considered the more rewarding way to experience the trek, and basic tea stalls along the route provide simple refreshment for hikers without requiring a fully self-sufficient camping setup.

Long used by local shepherds moving livestock between seasonal pastures, the Triund route has become one of the Dhauladhar range's most popular recreational treks as Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj's tourism has grown over recent decades.

The trailhead begins near Gallu Devi Temple above McLeod Ganj, about a 4-5 hour climb to Triund.
