Virasat-e-Khalsa, a striking modern museum in Anandpur Sahib, traces over 500 years of Sikh history and culture through immersive galleries, dioramas and multimedia exhibits, its dramatic architecture — designed to evoke traditional Sikh symbolism — making it one of the most visually distinctive museum buildings in India. The museum's comprehensive narrative approach makes complex Sikh history accessible even to visitors with little prior background knowledge.
Positioned directly alongside Anandpur Sahib's historic gurdwaras, the museum offers valuable context for understanding the religious and historical significance of the surrounding pilgrimage sites, making it a natural complement to a visit to the town's more traditional religious sites.
Opened in 2011 and designed by Israeli architect Moshe Safdie, Virasat-e-Khalsa was built to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Khalsa, intended as a comprehensive modern showcase of Sikh heritage for both pilgrims and general visitors.
