Cabo de Rama Fort

Cabo de Rama is a dramatic clifftop fort in South Goa, its ruins perched high above the Arabian Sea with sweeping coastal views in both directions. According to local legend, the site takes its name from Lord Rama of the Ramayana, believed to have stayed here with Sita during their period of exile, giving the fort a mythological layer predating its later Portuguese fortification.

Considerably less visited than North Goa's forts, Cabo de Rama's genuine sense of isolation and the drama of its clifftop setting make it a rewarding stop for visitors exploring South Goa's quieter coastline away from the busier beach resorts.

Originally a Hindu fortification before being captured and expanded by the Portuguese in the 18th century, Cabo de Rama changed hands between local rulers and colonial powers several times before its eventual abandonment.
