Dandeli, in the Western Ghats, has developed into one of Karnataka's key adventure tourism destinations, its forested wildlife sanctuary combined with white-water rafting on the Kali river giving it a dual appeal for both wildlife viewing and active outdoor sports. Black panthers, hornbills and a range of other Western Ghats wildlife inhabit the surrounding forest, while the river's rapids offer some of South India's more accessible white-water rafting.
Beyond rafting and wildlife safaris, activities including kayaking, zip-lining and cave exploration have developed around Dandeli in recent years, giving the town a broader adventure-sports identity that distinguishes it from more purely wildlife-focused reserves elsewhere in Karnataka.
Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary was established to protect a significant stretch of Western Ghats forest, and the town's adventure tourism industry developed alongside this conservation status from the 2000s onward as rafting and related activities grew in popularity.
