Doodhpathri

Doodhpathri, the 'valley of milk', is a high alpine meadow known for the milky-white appearance of the streams running through it, a mineral effect that gives the destination its evocative name. Rolling green pastures dotted with grazing sheep and horses, framed by pine forest and snow-streaked peaks well into early summer, make it one of the more visually striking and genuinely uncrowded meadows in the Kashmir valley.

Still relatively undeveloped compared to Gulmarg and Pahalgam, Doodhpathri sees mostly day visitors rather than overnight stays, with simple pony rides and picnic spots the main draw rather than any significant built infrastructure. Its combination of accessible beauty and comparatively light tourist footfall has made it an increasingly popular addition to Kashmir valley itineraries for visitors looking to see the region's meadows without the crowds found elsewhere.

Long used as summer grazing land by local Gujjar and Bakarwal shepherding communities, Doodhpathri's wider tourism recognition has grown only in recent years as road access improved and the meadow began appearing more prominently in Kashmir travel itineraries.
