Kutumsar Cave

Kutumsar is one of India's most significant limestone cave systems, extending over a kilometre underground within Kanger Valley National Park and home to a rare species of blind cave fish found almost nowhere else. Stalactite and stalagmite formations built up over thousands of years give the cave's interior a dramatic, otherworldly quality, illuminated for visitors as they move deeper underground.

Guided tours take visitors through the accessible sections of the cave, with local guides pointing out the distinctive rock formations and explaining the cave's unique ecosystem, though visitor numbers are managed carefully given the fragility of the underground environment.

Discovered relatively recently by modern exploration despite being long known to local communities, Kutumsar's full extent continues to be studied by speleologists, and its unique blind cave fish population has made it a site of particular scientific interest.
