Introduction
Tirathgarh is one of Chhattisgarh's most striking waterfalls, dropping in a series of tiered cascades over a wide rocky escarpment within the forests of Kanger Valley National Park. Unlike a single sheer drop, the water fans out across multiple stepped ledges, creating a broad curtain effect that is particularly dramatic during and just after the monsoon.
A short forest walk from the parking area leads to the base of the falls, where a natural pool allows for a cooling dip, while a series of viewpoints along the approach offer different perspectives on the cascading tiers. Being within the national park boundary, Tirathgarh combines easily with visits to the area's celebrated limestone caves in a single day trip from Jagdalpur.
History
The falls have long been a significant site for the local Bastar tribal communities, and their inclusion within Kanger Valley National Park since the park's establishment in 1982 has helped protect the surrounding forest from encroachment.
