Mysore Palace

Mysore Palace, also known as Amba Vilas Palace, is one of the most magnificent royal palaces in India, located in Mysuru, Karnataka. Famous for its grand Indo-Saracenic architecture, ornate interiors, colourful stained-glass windows, and spectacular illumination, the palace is a symbol of Karnataka's royal heritage. It was the official residence of the Wadiyar (Wodeyar) dynasty, who ruled the Kingdom of Mysore for centuries. With its stunning halls, courtyards, paintings, and royal collections, Mysore Palace is one of India's most visited historical monuments and a major attraction during the annual Mysuru Dasara festival.

The history of Mysore Palace dates back to the late medieval period when the Wadiyar dynasty established its rule in Mysore. The original wooden palace was destroyed by fire in 1897 during the wedding celebrations of Princess Jayalakshammanni. The present palace was commissioned by Maharani Kempa Nanjammani Vani Vilasa Sannidhana and designed by British architect Henry Irwin, with construction completed in 1912. The palace combines elements of Hindu, Islamic, Rajput, and Gothic architectural styles, creating the distinctive Indo-Saracenic design. It served as the residence and administrative centre of the Wadiyar rulers and played an important role in Mysore's cultural and political history. Today, Mysore Palace remains a royal heritage landmark, preserving the grandeur of the Wadiyar dynasty and attracting millions of visitors every year.
