Pangsau Pass

Pangsau Pass, also known as Pangsao Pass, is a historic mountain pass located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on the India–Myanmar border. Situated at an altitude of around 3,600 feet (1,100 metres) above sea level, the pass is surrounded by the scenic Patkai Hills and dense tropical forests. Known as the "Gateway to Myanmar", Pangsau Pass offers stunning views of the nearby Noi Kong Lake (Lake of No Return) and serves as an important cultural and historical landmark. The pass is also famous for the annual Pangsau Pass Winter Festival, which celebrates the traditions, music, and crafts of communities from India and Myanmar.

Pangsau Pass has been an important route connecting the Indian subcontinent with Southeast Asia for centuries. Historically, it was used by indigenous communities for movement, trade, and cultural exchanges across the Patkai Hills. During World War II, the pass gained major strategic importance as it was part of the route connected with the Ledo Road (Stilwell Road), which linked India with Myanmar and China for Allied military operations. The difficult terrain of the region made it a challenging but significant route during the war. After India's independence, Pangsau Pass continued to hold strategic importance due to its location along the international border. Today, it represents the historical connections between India and Myanmar while showcasing the cultural diversity and natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh's eastern frontier.
