Beyt Dwarka is a small island near Dwarka, believed in Hindu tradition to have been Krishna's actual residence, distinct from the mainland Dwarkadhish Temple which marks his kingdom's capital. A temple complex on the island, reached by boat across a narrow channel, draws pilgrims completing the wider Dwarka circuit, and the island's beaches add a further, more relaxed dimension to the pilgrimage stop.
The boat crossing itself, a short but essential part of reaching the island, adds a sense of journey to the pilgrimage that the mainland temple alone doesn't offer, and the island's more laid-back pace makes it a natural place to pause after the more intense devotional activity at the main Dwarkadhish Temple.
According to Hindu tradition, Beyt Dwarka was where Krishna actually lived with his queens, distinguishing it in pilgrim tradition from the mainland Dwarkadhish Temple, which represents his seat of governance rather than his residence.
