Gujarat

Gujarat is a vibrant state on the western coast of India, renowned for its rich history, entrepreneurial spirit, diverse landscapes, ancient temples, wildlife, and long Arabian Sea coastline. It is one of India's leading industrial and commercial states, contributing significantly to manufacturing, ports, petrochemicals, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy.

The state is famous for the Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue, the sacred Somnath Temple, the spectacular Great Rann of Kutch, and Gir National Park, the only natural habitat of the Asiatic lion.

History

1. Gujarat has a history dating back over 5,000 years and was home to major settlements of the Indus Valley Civilization, including Rani ki Vav and nearby archaeological regions such as Lothal and Dholavira.
2. The region was ruled by several dynasties, including the Mauryas, Guptas, Chaulukyas (Solankis), and the Gujarat Sultanate.
3. During the medieval period, Gujarat became an important center for maritime trade with Africa, Arabia, and Southeast Asia.
4. The Portuguese established settlements along the coast before the region eventually came under British rule.
5. Gujarat became a separate state on 1 May 1960, following the division of the former Bombay State into Gujarat and Maharashtra.
6. The state is also the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, two of India's most influential leaders.

Gujarat is located in western India and shares borders with:
