Bhalukpong is a scenic town located in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, situated along the banks of the Kameng River near the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border. Known as the gateway to Arunachal Pradesh, Bhalukpong is surrounded by lush forests, hills, and rivers, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The town offers attractions such as Pakhui (Pakke) Tiger Reserve, Bhalukpong Fort, river rafting, trekking trails, and wildlife experiences. Its beautiful landscapes and strategic location make it an important entry point for travellers heading towards Bomdila, Dirang, and Tawang.
Bhalukpong has a history connected with the indigenous tribes of the Kameng region, particularly the Aka (Hrusso) community, who have traditionally inhabited the area. The region was historically important due to its location along ancient trade and communication routes between the plains of Assam and the Himalayan regions. The Bhalukpong Fort, built by the local rulers of the region, reflects its historical significance as a centre of administration and defence. During British rule, the area came under the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) administration and later became part of Arunachal Pradesh after independence. Today, Bhalukpong continues to hold cultural and strategic importance while serving as a gateway to the natural and historical treasures of western Arunachal Pradesh.
