Bundi

Bundi, often overlooked in favour of Rajasthan's more famous cities, retains a genuinely unspoiled medieval character, its narrow blue-tinged lanes, elaborate stepwells and Taragarh Fort giving it an atmosphere reminiscent of Jodhpur before that city's tourism development. The Bundi Palace, with its exceptional collection of miniature murals, is considered by some art historians among the finest surviving examples of Rajput palace painting.

Rudyard Kipling reportedly wrote parts of 'Kim' while staying in Bundi, and the town's relative lack of large-scale tourist development has helped preserve both its physical heritage and a genuinely unhurried, small-town atmosphere increasingly rare among Rajasthan's more established heritage destinations.

Bundi was historically associated with the Hada Chauhans, a branch of the Chauhan Rajput dynasty. The town was established as the capital of the Hada Rajputs, who controlled the surrounding region known historically as Hadoti.

The rulers of Bundi constructed Taragarh Fort and the magnificent Bundi Palace, while wealthy merchants and nobles built numerous stepwells to manage the region's water resources. Bundi also developed a distinctive school of Rajasthani miniature painting, celebrated for its detailed depictions of royal life, hunting scenes, nature and mythology. The kingdom later came under Mughal influence while retaining its local Rajput traditions.

By Air: The nearest major airport is Jaipur International Airport, approximately 210 km from Bundi. Another option is Kota Airport, although flight availability is limited.

By Train: Bundi Railway Station provides rail connectivity with Kota and other destinations. Kota Junction, around 35 km away, is a major railway station with connections to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and other cities.

By Road: Bundi is well connected by road with Kota, Jaipur, Ajmer and Udaipur. Buses, taxis and private vehicles are convenient options for reaching the town.
