Chittorgarh Fort is one of the largest and most historically significant forts in India. Spread across a vast hilltop overlooking the city of Chittorgarh, the fort is celebrated for its massive walls, grand gateways, ancient temples, palaces, towers and association with the legendary Rajput history of Mewar.
The fort is particularly known for landmarks such as Vijay Stambh (Victory Tower), Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame), Rana Kumbha Palace, Meera Temple and Padmini Palace. Its architecture and stories of Rajput courage, sacrifice and resistance make it one of Rajasthan's most important heritage destinations.
Chittorgarh Fort has a long and complex history and served as the principal stronghold of the Mewar kingdom for centuries. The fort was associated with rulers of the Guhila and later Sisodia Rajput dynasties. It reached particular prominence under rulers such as Rana Kumbha, who strengthened the fort and constructed several important monuments.
The fort witnessed several major sieges, most notably those led by Alauddin Khalji in 1303, Bahadur Shah of Gujarat in 1535, and Akbar in 1567–68. These conflicts became deeply associated with Rajput traditions of resistance and sacrifice. After the Mughal conquest under Akbar, the political centre of Mewar eventually shifted to Udaipur. Today, Chittorgarh Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an enduring symbol of Mewar's history and Rajput heritage.

By Train: Chittorgarh Railway Station is well connected with major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Udaipur.
By Road: Chittorgarh has good road connections with Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota, Ahmedabad and other cities in Rajasthan. Buses, taxis and private vehicles can be used to reach the fort.
