Christ Church, Shimla

Christ Church is a historic Anglican church located on The Ridge in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Built during the British colonial period, it is one of the most recognisable landmarks of Shimla and is known for its magnificent neo-Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and peaceful atmosphere. The church's tall yellow façade and prominent clock tower make it an iconic feature of the Shimla skyline. As one of the oldest churches in North India, Christ Church attracts visitors for its architectural beauty, historical significance, and spiritual importance.

Christ Church was built during the British era to serve the growing Christian community in Shimla, which was the summer capital of British India. The foundation stone was laid in 1844, and the church was consecrated on 10 January 1857. It was designed by Colonel J. T. Boileau, following the neo-Gothic architectural style popular during the Victorian period. The church features five beautiful stained glass windows, representing virtues such as faith, hope, charity, patience, and humility. During British rule, the church became an important religious and social centre for colonial officials and residents of Shimla. After India's independence, it continued to serve the local Christian community and became a protected heritage landmark. Today, Christ Church remains one of Shimla's most visited attractions, preserving the architectural and cultural legacy of the colonial era.
