Dimna Lake is an artificial reservoir built by Tata Steel at the foot of the Dalma hills, around 15km from Jamshedpur, and remains the city's principal source of drinking water to this day. Beyond its practical role, the lake has become a popular recreational spot, its calm waters set against the backdrop of the forested Dalma range making it a favoured destination for boating and short getaways from the city.
The lake sits close enough to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary that the two are often visited together, and its relatively undeveloped, scenic shoreline offers a quieter contrast to the more built-up attractions closer to central Jamshedpur.
History
Constructed in 1944 by Tata Steel to address water scarcity in the rapidly growing steel city, Dimna Lake was built on land acquired under the Land Acquisition Act of 1894 and remains a vital piece of Jamshedpur's water infrastructure.

October to March, for the most pleasant conditions for boating and lakeside visits.
