Fateh Burj

Fateh Burj, near Chappar Chiri outside Chandigarh, is a tall commemorative tower built to honour the 1710 victory of Sikh general Banda Singh Bahadur over Mughal forces, a significant early military success for the Sikh community. The tower's height and prominent position make it a notable landmark visible from a considerable distance, and its design deliberately references traditional Sikh architectural motifs.

As a relatively modern monument rather than a historic surviving structure, Fateh Burj offers a different kind of heritage experience — a contemporary commemoration of a genuinely significant historical military victory, giving visitors context on an important but less internationally known chapter of early Sikh military history.

The tower commemorates the Battle of Chappar Chiri in 1710, when Sikh forces under Banda Singh Bahadur decisively defeated the Mughal governor of Sirhind, a significant early military victory that helped establish Sikh political and military authority in the Punjab region.
