Garden of Fragrance

The Garden of Fragrance in Sector 36 is planted specifically with scented and aromatic flowering plants and herbs, designed to be experienced as much through smell as through sight. Signage throughout identifies the various species — jasmine, raat ki rani, mint and rosemary among them — giving the garden a mildly educational character alongside its role as a pleasant, low-key public park.

Paths wind between raised beds so visitors can brush past the plants closely enough to catch their scent, an unusual design choice compared to the more visually oriented gardens elsewhere in the city. It's a smaller, more specialised space than Chandigarh's headline gardens, appealing particularly to visitors with an interest in horticulture or those simply looking for a quieter, less crowded green space to walk through.

Developed as one of Chandigarh's more specialised themed gardens, reflecting the city planners' broader intent to give each garden a distinct identity and purpose within the wider network of public green spaces threaded through the city's residential sectors.
