Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple

Gangeshwar Mahadev is an unusual and striking Shiva temple built directly among the rocks at the point where the Arabian Sea meets Diu's coastline, with five natural Shiva lingams positioned so that waves wash over them at high tide. The setting — worship literally interwoven with the sea itself — gives the temple a distinctive character unlike most Hindu shrines.

Visiting at different tide levels changes the experience considerably: at low tide, the lingams and surrounding rock pools are fully exposed for close viewing, while at high tide the sea crashes directly against them, creating a more dramatic and less accessible scene.

According to local legend, the five Shiva lingams here are linked to the Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata, said to have installed them during their period of exile, giving the site a mythological depth beyond its striking natural setting.
