Kasol, on the banks of the Parvati river, has grown from a small village into one of Himachal's most popular backpacker destinations, known for its cafes, Israeli-influenced food scene and access to trekking routes through the wider Parvati Valley. The village's riverside setting, framed by forested mountains, gives it a genuinely scenic backdrop even amid its now well-established tourist infrastructure.
Kasol serves as the natural base for treks to nearby villages like Kheerganga, Malana and Tosh, each offering a different flavour of Parvati Valley life, from hot springs to a village with its own distinct, isolated cultural and legal traditions, making Kasol as much a trekking hub as a destination for lingering by the river.
Kasol's transformation into a backpacker hub began in the 1990s and 2000s, as travellers exploring the wider Parvati Valley increasingly used the village as a base, gradually building the cafe and guesthouse culture that now defines it.
