Naida Caves

Naida Caves are a network of sandstone caves near Diu Fort, carved not for religious purposes but originally as a source of building material — the same soft sandstone used to construct much of Diu's Portuguese-era architecture. Sunlight filters down through natural openings in the cave roof, creating dramatic shafts of light through the otherwise cool, shaded interior.

The caves' irregular, cavernous chambers and connecting passages make for an atmospheric short exploration, and their proximity to Diu Fort means they're easily combined into the same visit, forming a natural extension of the fort's own historical footprint.

Believed to date to the Portuguese colonial period when the sandstone was quarried for construction across the island, the caves have since become a curiosity in their own right rather than remaining purely functional quarry sites.
