History

Pinjore Gardens was constructed in the 17th century during the reign of the Mughal Empire. It was designed and built around 1661 CE by Nawab Fidai Khan, a foster brother of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, who served as the governor of the region. The garden was inspired by the Persian-style Charbagh concept and was created as a royal retreat. Over time, the garden came under the control of various rulers, including the Sikh rulers and the Maharaja of Patiala, who later restored and developed it. In the 20th century, it was renamed Yadavindra Gardens in honour of Maharaja Yadavindra Singh of Patiala.
