History

1. Haryana has been inhabited since the Indus Valley Civilization, with important archaeological sites such as Rakhigarhi, one of the largest Harappan settlements in South Asia.
2. The region is closely linked to the Mahabharata, with Kurukshetra believed to be the site where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.
3. Over the centuries, Haryana came under the rule of the Mauryas, Guptas, Delhi Sultanate, Mughals, and later the British Empire.
4. After India's independence, Haryana was part of Punjab until 1 November 1966, when it became a separate state based on linguistic reorganization.
